If you remove the rubbers between the convertible top and the side windows, and for the years between 8.1967 and 7.1972 also the windscreen rubber, you will find that they are screwed to the hood frame with aluminium strips or plates.
These mounting strips ensure uniform pressure of the rubbers along their entire length, creating a tight seal between the rubber and the roof and/or windscreen frame.
In most convertibles, the rubbers need to be replaced, but this usually also applies to the fastening straps. Folded mounting strips will no longer be able to press the rubber properly.
Note: For the years between 8.1967 and 7.1972 you need two different sets, one set for the top of the side windows and a separate set for the windscreen. For all remaining years of construction, the windscreen rubber is mounted in a different way.
