Especially with an open engine compartment, as is the case with the Baja Buggies and All Terrain Beetles, the air filter is put under a lot of strain. Sand, mud and other dirt will pollute the filter element within a foreseeable period of time. It can be so important that the ride even has to be interrupted to clean the filter. If you own a vehicle with an unenclosed engine compartment, it is recommended that you protect your air filter with a pre-filter.
Pre-filters feature the patented nylon "Micro Mesh" filtration system that stops sand, mud and other large debris before it reaches your filter element. The pre-filter is elastic to surround your complete air filter without significant obstruction of the intake air, the carburetor setting does not need to be adjusted.
As long as the pre-filter is not damaged, you don't need to replace it, a little soap is enough to reuse it.
