In most Volkswagens, the turn signal rubbers are a sealing combination between the lens, the bulb holder and the bodywork.
This is not the case on Karmann Ghia models built between 1959 and 1969, nor on VW Type 3 models up to 1969. The rubber between the glass and the lamp holder and between the lamp holder and the body are two separate parts.
The rubber mentioned here is located between the lens and the socket, if the assembly has to be disassembled, you will find that the rubber will not be tight enough when it is put back in place.
