From the factory, Volkswagen didn't supply a radio with classic Volkswagens; it was always an additional option that you could have installed directly by the dealer when ordering or retrofitting.
Volkswagen had already made the preparations, for example, the radio slot was present and covered with a sealing panel, and there was also a speaker slot, recognizable by the grille next to the radio recess.
All that was required was a radio that would fit into the slot and a speaker with a matching mounting bracket. For the car radio and speaker, there was no need to go to a dealer - every car store offered a wide choice - but for the speaker mounting bracket, it was a different matter.however, for the speaker mounting bracket, it was preferable to order it from the VW dealer, thus ensuring that the speaker was mounted correctly.
The mounting bracket shown here is an identical reproduction that allows you to mount the speaker correctly under your dashboard.
