Tools for the timing system
When replacing the timing belt, you need special tools to get the job done. Many will not have these tools in their toolbox by default, so don't take unnecessary risks using all kinds of tools that aren't intended for this purpose, but buy the right one. This is the only way to assemble the distribution in the right way and to synchronize it properly.
A total of three different tools are required:
Camshaft and fuel pump locking tool
The diesel injection pump must be left in exactly the same position during work, so start the job by securing the pump with the locking pin, which must be inserted into the appropriate hole in the pulley. The camshaft should then be locked to prevent it moving while the timing belt is being tightened. With the pulley on one side of the camshaft and a groove on the other, the metal collar locks the camshaft in place horizontally, preventing it from turning. The locking pin and locking flange are supplied as a set, and if you already have a locking flange, then the locking pin is also available separately.
Note : Never use the locking flange to stop the camshaft when tightening or loosening the camshaft gear, otherwise the rear camshaft will break irrevocably.
Timing tensioner wrench
The timing tensioner is secured by a nut. Before tightening this nut, the timing belt must be tensioned, which is done by turning the tensioner with this wrench.
In addition to the necessary tools, you'll also need a new timing belt with tensioner, listed under the related parts tab.
