If your fuel filter is extremely dirty, it can affect the fuel supply so that the engine gets too little fuel. You can install a new filter again and again, but isn't it wiser to renew the tank?
Often rust scales are the cause of the problem, cleaning the tank can help, but not for long, the metal is damaged and will soon cause a new problem.
If you own a Buggy, it is advisable to use the gas tank for the 1961 to 1967 model. This is the only tank that has a fuel inlet at the top and offers the possibility to place a fuel float. This tank is also a solution if you have welded/condemned the fuel door on your "Cal-look" Beetle.
Make sure that the underside of the fuel tank is covered with an undercoat to prevent rust. The tank will be quickly forgotten when the car will receive an anti-rust treatment.
If it comes without connectors, you will have to buy some. Some tanks are delivered with a black transport paint. In this case, remove the transport paint and apply a top coat in the desired colour.
