The roof rack was the first accessory available for the car, from the beginning the driver wanted to take more with him than was possible in the car. For our classic Volkswagen, it wasn't much different, several manufacturers have developed ways to carry extra luggage. Unfortunately, most manufacturers have stopped producing luggage racks for our oldtimer in the meantime, but fortunately there are still specialists who bring reproductions or their own creations onto the market:
Roof rack "Classic"
These popular roof racks are fastened with clamps around the roof gutter and are equipped with authentic wooden beams. You can choose between a grey painted steel or stainless steel frame. In the case of the luggage rack for the VW Bus, you can choose between polished aluminium crossmembers and stainless steel crossmembers in the case of the stainless steel model. The grey painted frame is available as it was at the time, while the polished stainless steel frame is an improvement on it, with the latter the problem of rust is a thing of the past. Volkswagen Beetle luggage racks can be used for all construction years except for the convertible version, the VW Bus luggage racks up to 7/1979 are not suitable for models with a high roof.
"Vintage" roof rack
The "classic" roof racks have a rather square shape, whereas our Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia can't exactly be called square. It would be so much more pleasant if the luggage rack could also follow the contours of the bodywork. With this in mind, the manufacturers of the "Vintage" luggage rack began to develop a luggage rack that follows contours. The result is grandiose, a luggage rack with a very classic look, entirely in line with the roof line, made of polished stainless steel and fitted with wooden beams that fit together like a honeycomb for detail. Mounting is done on the gutters with the supplied mounting material (stainless steel). Available for the Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia except for the convertible versions.
Deck lid rack
If you need more space for your luggage, the Volkswagen Beetle or Karmann Ghia can also be equipped with a luggage rack for the engine hood. These luggage racks are mounted between the cooling slots and, on the Volkswagen Beetle, also on the bumper supports. For the Karmann Ghia, there is no obstacle to opening the engine hood, for the Volkswagen Beetle, you have to unscrew the lower mounting brackets and tilt or slide the luggage rack upwards. Available with chrome, galvanized or stainless steel frame, equipped with wooden or metal beams. All luggage racks are supplied with mounting hardware.
Option : Secure your luggage in style with genuine leather luggage rack straps which are listed on the options tab.
