Our Volkswagens are full of screws, bolts, nuts and washers that are not all made for a particular model, but are used universally.
These parts are recognizable by their part number starting with the "N" of the German word Normteile, which means "standard parts".
Most of the nuts are so-called "standard parts" that have been used in all kinds of varieties at Volkswagen. The size of the thread, height, width of the wrench, hardness and choice of material make a difference, so it is important to replace a nut with one that meets Volkswagen specifications, or the so-called "N" number.
The nuts listed here meet the Volkswagen specifications in every respect and can therefore easily replace the original.
If you have a choice between steel and stainless steel, it is not advisable to combine the two. Galvanic corrosion can occur. If stainless steel parts get wet from rain or simply condensation, a reaction occurs between the base steel and the more noble stainless steel. The base metal, in this case steel, will therefore rust quickly.
