Window cranks or winders don't usually last forever. There comes a time when your window winder breaks or is so corroded that replacement is the best solution.
On Volkswagens produced until 1966, the window winders are chrome-plated and have a button available in several colors. If you have the correct window winders , the color of the window winders will match the color of the dash buttons as applied by the factory at the time.
From 1967 to July 1973, they were available in two versions: a deluxe version with a chrome rim that falls against the upholstery and a full black version for less luxurious models.
From 1974 onwards, there is no more difference in design, they are all black and more robust.
For the Volkswagen Beetle, the last modification was in 1986: the window winders were modernized and made entirely of plastic. The same window winder was also used on the VW Vanagon to operate the stretcher lifting system of vehicles equipped as ambulances. This window winder is the only one that is supplied with a rosette on the underside, this rosette must be ordered separately with all other window winders.
All window winders used since 1967 are interchangeable, it is not necessary to stick to the year of manufacture. You can choose a window winder that suits you better than the original one.
