Very often this spring has broken. A broken spring does not pull the clutch fully back, so the thrust bearing still rotates a little, which can lead to faster wear at low speeds.
Check the condition of the spring at each service and replace it if necessary. This spring is located around the clutch fork and attaches around the clutch arm on the side of the gearbox.
Fitting it is a difficult and very clumsy job if the arm is still fitted, removing the arm makes the job much more pleasant.
Attention: It happens regularly with the Volkswagen Beetle and the Karmann Ghia that the spring does not fit, although the correct spring for the year of manufacture was ordered. It is not the spring or the year of manufacture of your car, but the year of manufacture of your gearbox that causes the problem. Often the gearbox has been replaced by a gearbox of a different year of manufacture. If you have any doubts about this, it is best to order all the springs and compare them with your broken spring. You can always return unused springs.
