The fuel tank flap is held in place by a spring in both the open and closed positions. If the spring breaks, the flap begins to lead a life of its own, which may result in the fuel door opening spontaneously, or the fuel door not staying open when refueling.
This replacement spring is only suitable for the years mentioned, i.e. only for cars where the fuel door cannot be unlocked from the inside.
