This three-part mounting base was developed for mounting the mirrors of the Karmann Ghia.
In addition, this assembly base was also used with the Volkswagen Beetle convertible until 7.1967 as part of the safety requirements that were mandatory in some countries.
In these countries, the mirrors of the convertible version could only be mounted on the doors and not on the hinge, as Volkswagen did as standard at the time. The mirrors used for this purpose, as well as the mounting base, come from Karmann Ghia.
In addition to the exterior mirrors, the yellow headlights were also part of this safety package, which was registered internally under the code name M124.
