The holes in the chassis have been enlarged in order to align the body more easily. In order to be able to tighten the bolts properly, metal reinforcement plates are mounted in the edge of the frame to increase the pressure surface.
Volkswagen has given this a lot of thought and has developed metal plates that are only designed for this purpose. So don't replace your old rusty ones with cheap reproductions.
Over the years we have seen numerous reproductions of which none of the metal plates were identical to the original. The metal plates should have a slight curvature so that they more or less follow the chassis edge. They also have a high and a less high raised edge. The high side is mounted in the direction of the chassis edge, so there is only one way to mount them properly. Also the thickness of the metal plates should be sufficient, it is not the intention that they bend when tightening the bolts.
The metal plates mentioned here meet the specifications of your Volkswagen in all respects and are the only ones that are 100% equal to the original. Don't settle for bad reproductions and choose metal plates and bolts (listed on the options tab) that have been thought about like Volkswagen did at the time.
