The door locks of the cargo doors on the side of the Split Bus can be opened up to 90 degrees, after which the door stop rod stops them.
If this safety had not been ensured and the door had been removed from your hands in the event of an unexpected gust of wind, the damage to the bodywork could be considerable. But it is not always practical when loading the cargo that the doors only open up to 90 degrees, so the safety pin can be partially removed, after which the doors can be opened to the maximum.
To avoid any loss, the original pin cannot be completely removed, but despite this safety system, it often happens that the pin is missing. Many people thought it was more practical at the time to remove it in its entirety, by filing the part that holds the pin in place, it could be removed completely.
In addition to the use for the loading doors of the Split Bus, this pin is also used for the side door of all double cab Buses from the Split Bus to the T25/T3 Vanagon.
