In older Volkswagen models, the heating is operated by a central knob. By turning the knob to the left or right, the temperature is regulated.
The knob rests on the turning mechanism and is secured by a clamping sleeve or roll pin. The part is made of spring steel, once assembled it keeps the connection under tension.
The clamping pin mentioned here has the exact Volkswagen specifications for a perfect fit but offers another important aspect with which this part surpasses the original; it is made of stainless steel. The original has little protection against corrosion, so there will be few Volkswagens with a corrosion free roll pin, which will not happen with this new part, so no rust marks on your knob.
If you mount a new heater knob, use a new roll pin. After years of service, the spring tension will decrease and the pin may come loose, resulting in a loose adjustment knob.
