The most popular aftermarket accessory of the time was a storage tray that could be mounted under the dashboard. Many versions were marketed by different manufacturers, Ra-Bambus being by far the best known.
Ra-Bambus used a wooden frame wrapped in bamboo, creating a diamond-shaped bottom. With many brands, the bottom is made of a plastic or wooden board, creating a dark hole that quickly fills with dust. With the Ra-Bambus design, you didn't have the problem of dust accumulation and you had natural lighting. Unfortunately, this design also had a drawback: you could only place large objects in it, small objects would fall through. Later, the outer bamboo rim was replaced by an ivory-colored plastic wire, while the bottom remained bamboo. Later still, the bottom was replaced by plastic wire. Since plastic is much stronger than bamboo, the broken parts of the bamboo bottom were a thing of the past.
The Ra-Bambus model is still available today. They are no longer originals, but reproductions of the models available in the 50s, 60s and 70s. You can choose between an authentic bamboo stand and the most famous version of Ra-Bambus in plastic wire.
Some trays come with a reproduction of the nameplate, but this is not the case for all models and versions. Complete your bamboo or plastic stand similar to the Ra-Bambus design with an aluminum nameplate reproduction that also replaces the lost or damaged original.
