All Bay Window Buses are equipped with a sliding door which, when opened, slides backwards on the side panel. To do this, the door is guided to three places where the lower and upper guides can be discreetly hidden, but a cover must be provided for the central guide.
Volkswagen has made the design of the sides largely dependent on the coverage of the middle rails by pulling the semi-circular shape of the roof all the way to the end. When the Bus is also equipped with a left sliding door (for right-hand drive or RHD), the side where there is no sliding door is also equipped with a cover. This cover is then not functional, except that it reduced production costs because the Bus was the same on the left and right sides.
Between the cover and the body is a black plastic tube that ensures that if there is friction between these parts, no paint damage can occur and that the seal is protected against moisture (see the Options tab).
These covers are similar to the original, made of 1 mm sheet metal and available for the left and right sides.
Note : Only applies to left-hand drive Buses (LHD).
