The fuel filler hose of our Volkswagen Vanagon is slid into the tank as a separate part. To prevent leakage, it is mounted in the fuel tank with a rubber grommet (gasket).
This is also the most critical area where many leakage problems originate, do not try to repair the leak with filler or any other temporary repair but replace the rubber grommet.
Volkswagen changed the diameter of the filler pipe during the initial period, not at the factory but as a modification made when the car was taken in for maintenance. Many Volkswagen Buses cars have not undergone this modification, which is why two grommets are mentioned up to and including 1983 (chassis number 24-E-000 213 ). The difference is in the inside diameter, measure the filling hose at the bottom before ordering.
