The plastic covers around the steering column are vulnerable, it only takes one false move when getting on or off the bus to hit the underside of the steering column. Damage to the plastic and broken fasteners, with which the upper part is attached to the lower part, are part of the life of many Volkswagen Buses, especially if they have been used for professional traffic and have been heavily used.
Repairing these plastic parts by welding is possible with the right tools and materials, but it is usually only temporary. Replacing them is the best way to get the same result as when your Volkswagen left the factory.
The steering column is covered with a top and a bottom part that are available separately.
