On a Volkswagen Split Bus, the latches or straps on the side-loading doors, including the side door on the double-cab pickup versions of the Split Bus and the Bay Window, can be opened to a maximum of 90 degrees, after which the latches stops the door. If this safety feature was not available and the door was blown out of your hand by an unexpected gust of wind, the damage to the body would be considerable.
These door straps or brackets are like many straps of the 50s and 60s made of cloth. The advantage of this method was that a strong and flexible door latch could be produced economically, without the need for complicated construction.
A fabric door straps does not have an eternal life and certainly not with our VW buses which were mainly used for freight transport, where loading doors were used a lot.
These door brackets are delivered in black fabric and equipped with a black mounting bracket. When ordering, don't forget to look at the options tab, chances are you will need several other parts, especially if there was no strap in your VW Bus.
