In addition to the locking wire, locking plates are the oldest methods of securing a bolt or nut. Our classic Volkswagen has both locking systems, but you will mostly encounter locking plates.
Each plate is for a specific bolt or nut and therefore cannot be used universally. The plate mentioned here is for securing the bolts that attach the steering box to the front axle.
Always mount a new plate, as metal fatigue will occur if it is reused (if bent again). Don't take any chances, you don't want the bolt to loosen.
