After the model change from Split Bus (T1 ) to Bay Window (T2 ), every detail was reviewed and therefore greatly improved. A major improvement has been the suspension of the engine, instead of the engine being suspended only from the gearbox, it is now also suspended from the rear by rubbers. This was not really new for Volkswagen, it was also used for the type 3 series.
For a clear overview, only information on rubber mounts for the engine is given here. For rubber gearbox mounts, we refer to the gearbox mounts which, if available and applicable, are listed under the Related parts tab.
The engine suspension mounts are equipped with vulcanized rubber to ensure that engine vibrations are not transmitted to the bodywork and chassis for optimal comfort.
If the engine tilts too much, it is time to take a closer look at the engine mounts. Don't think that your VW is the only one with torn silentblocks, most of our classic VWs have had this problem, a real old age problem. It is therefore recommended to replace all silentblocks immediately during restoration.
