The central part of the chassis, commonly referred to as the tunnel, is a closed space and where cables and pipes pass, it is closed with rubber, regular inspection if everything is still sealed is recommended.
Since 1967, Volkswagen has provided the tunnel with a hole to evacuate condensation water and water splashes, which could enter the tunnel through a poorly sealed rubber. To ensure that only moisture can escape, a special tulle or pressed rubber cap with a small opening is mounted in the drainage hole. However, it is necessary to check and clean this tulle every time it is maintained to prevent it from clogging.
