The master cylinder is mounted through the "Napoleon hood" (frame support). The Napoleon hood has a double plating with several centimeters of free space. The master cylinder is inserted and fixed through both plates.
There are spacers between the sheet metal pieces, if they were not present, the sheet metal would compress when tightening the master cylinder and you could not tighten it properly.
Until July 1960, Volkswagen used brake master cylinders that had no threads, a bolt-nut connection took care of the assembly. from August 1960, the master cylinders were threaded, which was a considerable improvement. You could replace the master cylinder without the help of others.
The set for the cars up to 7.1960 are therefore equipped with bolts and nuts as they should be. If your master cylinder has ever been replaced, chances are that it is threaded, even then this set can be used and you screw the nut last on the bolt while the master cylinder is already fixed. The nuts may be of no use but this way the appearance is the same as your Volkswagen once left the production line. Keep in mind that if there is thread present the spring washer is mounted under the bolt and if there is no thread present under the nut.
Note: This assembly kit is identical to the original in every detail, from the correct bolts in terms of length and tensile strength to the color of the galvanized spacers, everything is 100% identical.
