Check the battery level every 5,000 km and top it up with demineralized water if necessary. The maximum level is indicated on almost all batteries; if this is not the case, top up the battery until the battery plates are under water.
Note : Do not confuse demineralized battery water with battery acid. Demineralized battery water is only for topping up, not for filling a new battery, which requires battery acid. In some batteries, the water level cannot be topped up. Gel batteries obviously don't need water.
Battery life depends largely on maintenance and use. If the battery is not used for some time, be sure to discharge it regularly. If you buy what's known as a drip system (see the corresponding tab), you have nothing to worry about, your battery remains in good condition and you don't need to buy a new one every year.
