I många fall kan vevstakarna inte sättas tillbaka direkt utan måste genomgå en fullständig översyn. Det är välkänt att många återmonterar vevstakar utan att mäta eller bearbeta dem och först senare upptäcker att motorns livslängd är mycket nedslående.
Översyn av vevstakar kan endast göras med rätt verktyg, vilket de flesta verkstäder inte har. Detta arbete anförtros ofta ett specialiserat renoveringsföretag. Innan du tar detta steg är det lämpligt att fråga om kostnaderna, som kan vara så höga att en ny uppsättning anslutningsstavar är mer fördelaktig.
Självklart måste dessa nya standardkopplingsstänger också mätas, se om viktskillnaden mellan dem ligger inom toleranserna och se om kolvstiftet passar med lätt tumtryck.
