When you start restoring, you should start with the chassis, and work your way up from there. You start with the part that has suffered the most and where you will have to put the most energy.
The chassis crossmembers are connected at several points, the most important intermediate crossmembers are the front and rear cross members through which all the pipes and tubes pass. To replace the crossmembers, you will have to remove all hoses and tubes, make sure everything is rust free, loosen the crossmembers on the welded and spot-welded parts and replace them with the replacement crossmember mentioned here.
This is the only way that you will not be able to see afterwards that the crossmember has been replaced.
All replacement crossmembers are of very high quality and identical to the original, both in size and sheet thickness.
Alternative: If you cannot afford the complete replacement or if you are simply looking for a (temporary) repair, a transfer part is also available for the rear panel of the VW Bay Windows Bus, which is indicated in the "Alternatives" tab.
