A lighter flywheel helps to increase power, but is better suited for engines running at higher speeds.
The 200 mm flywheel from the type 1 and type 3 engines is suitable for a connection with 8 dowel pins on the crankshaft (this flywheel also fits on the 4 original pins). As one of the 8 holes is drilled asymmetrically, the flywheel only fits on the crankshaft in one way (with all crankshafts with counterweights, it is done in the same way), which is very important to balance the crankshaft with pulley and flywheel. If you wish to equip the standard 8-dowel crankshaft with the special drilling tool (see Options tab), please take into account the asymmetrical drilling of the holes.
Type 4 flywheels are mounted with bolts and are equipped with a single pin that ensures that the flywheel can only be mounted in one way. For all flywheels, it is recommended to balance the flywheel with the crankshaft and pulley, which minimizes pressure and vibration on the main bearings. Type 4 flywheels are available for 215 and 228 mm clutch discs, an adapted flywheel is also available for a 200 mm clutch disc. The matter allows a type 4 engine to be mounted onto a type 1 or type 3 gearbox without having to change the gearbox.
Note for flywheels 01504 and 04504 (type 1 and type 3 engines) :
Before mounting, check that the dowel pins do not have too much play, too much play can cause the flywheel to loosen. This will cause enormous damage to the engine. Use only a crankshaft seal without an additional lip (anti-dust) with this flywheel. These references 01639 or 01640 are best suited for this purpose. The use of a seal with an additional lip (anti-dust) inevitably leads to leaks. The indentation of the tread starts earlier than the original, which makes the connection stronger, but has the disadvantage that the diameter is increased where the additional lip has to do its job and will break.
