At the top of the fuel tank, there are several hoses and tubes that provide ventilation. The T-piece mentioned here connects the two hoses from the tank vent with the activated carbon filter or the air filter if no activated carbon filter is present.
A strong odor of gasoline may indicate that the hoses or this T-piece have become porous or leaking. The engine compartment of our Volkswagen Bus is closed all around where petrol vapours can get trapped, it only takes a spark to ignite your engine compartment completely.
Some of the breather hoses are located in the engine compartment and should therefore be checked at each maintenance, porous hoses and/or connectors should be replaced immediately.
This rubber T-piece is not universal, it allows the connection of two different pipe diameters.
