The seal between the generator bracket and the crankcase is a paper seal on older type 1 engines, which was then replaced by a deflector plate that not only serves as a seal, but also prevents oil from splashing.
Type 3 engines have this seal between the crankcase and the crankcase breather box. With older engines, it is the same as the type 1 engine with only a separate seal. With the last years of construction, the deflector plate has been added, so they are both used.
Note: Position the deflector plate as shown in the illustrations showing how the deflector plate is placed on the crankcase. Please note that the deflector plate also acts as a seal, it can only be mounted once and can not be used a again.
