The wiper shaft of the Volkswagen Beetle, Karmann Ghia, VW Bus and Type 3 is fixed to the bodywork with two flat nuts, one at the top and one at the bottom. the VW Kübel and VW Vanagon only use these nuts on the outside and one on the inside of the bodywork.
If the shaft threads are damaged or corroded, there is a good chance that the threads of the nuts will be broken, as a brass nut is weaker than a steel nut. Clean the shaft threads as much as possible to minimize the risk of damage and do not reinstall damaged nuts.
