The bumpers have been changed several times over the years, some export models were different from the German version. For example, Beetles for the American and Canadian markets from 1952 to 1966 were equipped with protective tubes. Between 1967 and 1973, the bumpers were the same as those of the European VW 1300 and 1500. From 1974, only the model 1303 was delivered, with safety bumpers, they were heavier and mounted on bumper supports with an internal shock absorber.
All these bumper modifications were necessary to meet the stricter safety requirements applicable in these countries.
Although the quality of chromium is good, chromium steel still needs maintenance. If you don't want to polish your bumpers regularly and prefer to have a bumper that never rust again, then the models with overrider tubes are also available in polished stainless steel (see the alternatives tab).
Note: Square safety bumpers are equipped with black adhesive tape instead of protective rubbers. If you prefer to keep your Beetle in its original condition, then these rubbers should be present. If necessary, add them to your order (see the Options tab)
