The window or door pillars form the connection between the body and the roof of the VW Bus, and are marked with letters from the front of the vehicle: A, B, C and sometimes a D-pillar.
The most critical area is the underside, so the repair part mentioned here is specifically for the underside of the D-pillar and is in most cases of sufficient length.
For Volkswagen Buses from 8.1971 onwards there is a nut at the bottom, it is intended for the heat shield which is only applicable for type 4 engines, for type 1 engines this nut is present but not used.
