When replacing the rear brake shoes, it is usually necessary to transfer the handbrake levers. They are fitted with a pin which is secured with a horseshoe-shaped clamp. To release the clamp, bend it slightly and slide it out of the pin's notch.
This clamp is for single use only and must always be replaced, because if it is reused (by tightening it again around the pin notch), metal fatigue will occur and, sooner or later, it will break with all the consequences that this implies.
When fitting new brake shoes, make sure you have a set of handbrake pin secure clips to hand.
Note: These clips are included in some brake shoe assembly kits. If not, they are listed with the mounting kit in the "options" tab.
