The motor sump plate of type 1, type 3 and CT/CZ engines is secured with 6 cap nuts to prevent leakage through the threads. It is often seen that cap nuts have been replaced by normal nuts, partly because of this the underside of the engine is often covered with oil.
In addition to its function as a sump cap nut, this cap nut is used for a variety of applications, which are listed below. The total number of nuts required is shown in brackets behind the application.
