Today, it is normal that there is a radio and speakers in a production car, which was different with our classic VWs.
Volkswagen made the preparations, but the radio and loudspeaker had to be ordered as an option. The preparations consisted only of necessary recesses where the loudspeaker and radio could be mounted. The radio space was equipped with a blind plate and the speaker space was carefully arranged.
From 1953 to 1957, the opening of the loudspeaker is finished by a grill behind which is a screen mesh to protect the loudspeaker.
It was also possible to choose an additional option for a clock instead of a loudspeaker, so the grid was replaced by a part where the clock could be mounted.
If you want to mount this very exclusive option, finding a grid has become almost impossible and if you can find it extremely expensive. Both the standard grid and the clock mounting grid are available as reproduction parts. If you do not have a clock, the grid is also available with a quartz watch in the Volkswagen style and colour of the time (in terms of pattern and color).
The standard model and the model including the clock are delivered chrome plated with the rear screen and a separate screen. This separate sceen mesh is for a clock and is not treated, so it can be chrome plated or painted in the body colour (both options were used at the time).
The rear screen on this model is not included, take this supplement.
