A well-known rust spot is the underside of the doors, for which two repair parts are available. The underside of the door where the door rubber also enters and which extends approximately 14 cm inwards, and the door plate which extends from the bottom to the top of the lower hinge (approximately 15 cm).
The underside is equipped with the hinge reinforcement on the inside and pre-drilled holes for fixing the hinge (riveting or welding). This part was designed for all Volkswagen Beetle doors ever produced, where you will find the raised sheet metal in the middle on Beetles produced mainly in South America. For our European doors, you do not use it and you can saw it on the edge.
The door sheet has a top edge that makes it easy to weld. It is therefore not necessary to weld the pieces together, but 1 cm on top of each other, so that there is no difference in height. The holes for drainage are also present and the corners are in one piece with the rest of the sheet.
Look out! When welding the door sheets, keep the door wet to prevent it from warping, and do not weld everything at once, but in sections.
