When disassembling the gear lever, you will encounter different parts. One of the most important is the locking plate which ensures that reverse gear cannot be selected accidentally when shifting gears, as reverse gear is only available when the gear lever is pressed down. If you can shift into reverse without depressing the shift lever, this plate is worn and must be replaced. When unscrewing the gear lever, make sure that it is in second gear and that the raised side that is partly upwards is on the right side, then the adjustment can begin :
1. Depress the clutch, align the gear lever with second gear. The gear lever shall be exactly perpendicular to the transverse direction of the car, slightly inclined backwards.
2. Use a screwdriver to push the locking plate so far to the left that the plate touches the gear lever (it cannot go any further), the lever must not change position.
3. Tighten the bolts in this position.
For the Volkswagen Bus, this plate differs slightly from the original, but the operation and mounting method are the same.
Only suitable for cars with manual gearboxes.
