For the most common years of construction, the rear apron is available in two qualities where steel thickness, fit and copy accuracy are the biggest differences. The A-quality rear aprons are identical to the original, with equal steel thickness and a perfect fit. B-quality rear aprons can be described as reasonable in terms of fit, but you certainly can't expect miracles from them. You'll have to adjust and bend the sheet metal here and there, but it's much cheaper.
The rear panel of the VW Beetle 1200 from 8.1974 to 12.1977 and of the VW Beetle 1303 from 8.1974 and subsequent years has a recess for an additional switch for engine compartment lighting or alarm system. This protects the wiring, which has never been the case with European VW Beetles. You can remove the tray and the wiring hose and weld the hole, if you want to keep it 100% original. If originality is not important to you, you may consider using this additional switch. This apron also has no lid seal channel for the hood rubber. If you want to mount it on the rear apron like the original, take the channel in addition.
