The doors of the Volkswagen Split Bus consist of two parts, the lower part made of sheet metal and a frame on top in which the windows are placed. It is not only rust that makes it necessary to replace this frame, if it turns out that the sealing cannot be done in an optimal way, there is a great chance that the frame is bent.
Before painting the VW Bus, it is important to assemble the doors, including all the rubbers, and to check if the doors fit the body. Unfortunately, this is not the case with many VW Buses, and the finger is often pointed at the Volkswagen build. This is a misconception, the doors were perfectly closed at the factory. The fault lies with the restorer, who should have used the correct method, which would not have happened and the doors would have hung the same way they left the factory.
The door window frame mentioned here has a solid black powder coating and comes with horizontal window channels. These window channels were never delivered separately by Volkswagen, although they are a part that can be screwed on separately. The frame also has a riveted vent window support, i.e. mounted in the same way as originally.
If you wish to replace the windscreen support and/or the horizontal windscreen channel separately, please see the "replacement parts" tab.
