The steering box must be able to absorb vibrations without altering the steering behaviour. To do this, the steering box is mounted in vulcanized rubber rings. Over time, the rubber dries out, causing the metal sleeve on the rubber to pull out, creating a gap between the rubber and the steering box. This play is perceptible in the steering behaviour, one might think that there is play on the steering box while the problem is caused only by the silentblocs.
In total, the steering box is mounted in four places with these silentblocks, so it is advisable to replace all four at the same time.
