On engines type 1, type 3, CT/CZ and waterboxer (WBX), the flange under the fuel pump can be quickly detached if you want to remove it from the crankcase. If the flange breaks and there is still a piece left in the crankcase, tilt the motor upside down and gently tap the piece that is still stuck. The parts then fall out of the crankcase and the new flange can be mounted. If the engine is installed, try to carefully recover the parts from within the crankcase. Let the engine run for 5 minutes and change the oil immediately (also clean the oil sieve thoroughly) in case any parts have fallen into the engine. This is still a dangerous operation, removing the pump flange in one piece very carefully is still the best option, so you are warned.
The main function of the fuel pump holder is to prevent heat transfer from the engine to the fuel pump. The term fuel pump flange is therefore a confusing name, thermal insulation would be a better name. Seals are located above and below the support, they are not included, but are available separately under the Options tab.
Caution : The fuel pump drive shaft must be able to move smoothly in the fuel pump holder. If necessary, slightly widen the opening in the fuel pump holder (not applicable for type 4 engines). If the shaft cannot move smoothly in the holder, it may jam when the engine heats up and the fuel pump is no longer driven.
