From the beginning, the speedometer was equipped with a night light with integrated indicator lights. Later, additional indicators were added for accessories that could be ordered as an option. Wherever possible, the switches were equipped with lamps, so no additional indicator lamps were needed to provide nighttime illumination for the switch.
Different lights have been used on different Volkswagen models over the years, with the socket not always the same.
On the VW 1303 Beetle and VW Vanagon, there are several light switches that use the same socket, but differ in length to facilitate bulb changes. Unfortunately, it is not clear from the Volkswagen documentation exactly when a short or long socket was used. If you have a switch with a short socket, you may want to consider replacing it with a longer one.
If bulbs are not included, they can be found in the "options" tab.
