The brake pedal and clutch pedal move in a recess in the chassis. If this cavity is not closed, moisture and dirt can penetrate. Volkswagen found a very simple solution, which later proved to be very effective and even served until the model change in 1979. No rubber that could wear out quickly, but a seal on the pedal for the outside and a felt seal for the inside. On the pedal, it is a rubber sleeve that closes against the base plate when the pedals are not in use and, on the inside, a felt sleeve that always keeps the space between the pedal and the base plate closed. The rubber sleeve moves with the pedal and to prevent dust and dirt from entering the pedal when it is depressed, the felt closure ensures it. The rubber sleeve and felt closure are supplied in pairs (for both pedals).
