Excessive play on the door hinges can cause the door not to close properly in the lock and to lower when it is open. In such a case, the worn hinge pin must be removed from the hinge and replaced with a new pin.
The old hinge pin will not come out easily, so it is necessary to place the door in the vise and hit the hinge pin with a pusher from below.
It is recommended to replace all hinge pins at the same time during restoration. If you have to do it later, you irrevocably damage the paint.
Make sure that the hinge is free of rust and dirt. Measure the inside diameter of the part mounted on the door. Based on this size, you order the hinge pin, they are available for most VW models in standard size and oversize.
Drill or sharpen the hinge to the outside size of your new hinge pin and push or hammer the new pin from above (teeth or cavity must face up).
The above assembly method is applicable for cabin doors, the loading doors of a Volkswagen Bus and the side door of the double cabin Bus, they have tension sockets. Rust formation causes the sleeve to lose its tension range, resulting in excessive play. The method of disassembly and assembly is the same as that of cab doors, but it does not matter whether you disassemble or assemble the sleeve from below or from above.
Caution: Use plenty of engine oil when driving the hing pin. If the pin is open on top, you should lubricate it with engine oil at each maintenance.
