In off-road and drag-race use, drive shafts have to endure a lot of things. Due to the high forces that are released, the original constant velocity joints fail quickly. Many off-road and drag-race vehicles no longer use the standard 90 mm homokinetics (e. g. a VW Beetle), but switch to a 100 mm diameter VW Bus. For this adjustment, you need not only other constant velocity drives, but also suitable wheel and flange shafts. Despite their larger diameter, Volkswagen Bus standard homokinetics are also unable to withstand these enormous forces, so reinforced models are available for this purpose. Not only can it be used off-road or drag-race, but it is often used as a replacement for the original on a VW Bus or VW Thing. If you want to make sure that your kinetics are not involved in the difficult work, then this is the perfect choice.
The constant velocity drives have the standard diameter VW Bus or VW Thing of 100 mm, they are equipped with a chromium-molybdenum cage (in which the balls are located) and the inside and outside are made of a reinforced alloy. Are delivered individually, without sleeves, mounting bolts or grease, please order them additionally.
Be careful: Always use molybdenum grease (50880) and no lithium universal grease. Molybdenum grease has been specially developed for high loads. If you use a standard lithium grease, you will need to replace your new constant velocity drive in the near future.
At the top of the page (under "Fits") are indicated the VW models and the years of manufacture for which these reinforced CVs can replace the original, look under the "related parts" tab if you wish to use them for other applications.
Wheel shafts and flanges
If you use a Volkswagen Beetle, Karmann Ghia or a Type 3 gearbox with universal joints (IRS), you cannot simply use these reinforced homokinetics. A VW Bus homokinetics measures 100 mm, whereas for a VW Beetle, Karmann Ghia or a type 3 gearbox, it is 90 mm. The reinforced wheel shafts and flanges listed below are intended for VW, Karmann Ghia or Type 3 Beetles and have 100 mm flanges or are suitable for mounting the above reinforced constant velocity drives. Wheel shafts and axle flanges are forged chrome-molybdenum and are supplied without locking plugs (only required for the gearbox side):
05496 : gearbox side in pairs
05497 : wheel side in pairs
04447 : final drive wheel flange locking plugs (in pairs)
