A switching relay is fitted to ensure that there is no voltage loss across the wiring and contacts, plus, the switch only needs to switch the current flowing through the relay coil, and this prevents burn-in of the contacts in the switch.
If you have to replace an original relay, always compare the number of connections of the old relay with the number of connections of this new relay. In the overview below you can find out for each VW model for which application and/or at which mounting location the relay mentioned here replaces the original relay.
This relay should not only be used to replace the original relay, but is also required to switch on high power consumers such as headlights, fog lights and rear window heating. Always use a switching relay when installing a high-power relay.
