The Volkswagen Beetle 1302, 1303 and all automatic versions are equipped with cardan shafts (IRS) instead of swing axles. This rear axle system is much better for road handling than the swing axle system.
With these brackets it becomes possible to convert your chassis to an IRS system. These supports must be welded to the torsion tube in which the support arms can then be mounted. With the gearbox of a Volkswagen 1302, 1303 or an automatic version, you now have an optimal combination.
It is advisable to equip the rear suspension with urethane pivot bushings (see Options tab), which allows better road handling.
However, it is necessary to increase the diameter of the section to be welded around the torsion tube as these brackets were originally intended for Sandrails that have a narrower torsion tube.
