The alternator or dynamo is mounted against the doghouse shroud with cover plates (backing plates), on the one hand on the alternator/dynamo and on the other hand on the doghouse.
The inner plate falls into the outer plate, so that only the outer edges of the outer plate are visible. The inner plate is equipped with a cooling slot that cools the alternator or dynamo, if you have a dynamo (DC current), make sure you only close the opening (carbon brush inspection holes) at the top and not at the bottom. If you close both openings, there is no outlet for cooling air, which can cause the dynamo to overheat.
These covers are available in a set of 3 pieces with black inner and outer plate and in addition the intermediate ring. The outer cover is also available as a separate part.
For those who want to give their engine optimal attention, the inner and outer covers are also available in chrome, not as a set but separately from each other. If you choose the chrome version, reuse the intermediate ring, it is not available separately.
Applicable to type 1 engines equipped with an alternator (AC alternating current) or dynamo (DC direct current) with a diameter of 105 mm.
Note : The hole in the outer cover diagonally below the alternator/dynamo mounting location is provided for an additional spark plug cable mounting clip (see Options tab), a modification made by Volkswagen in the late 1970s and early 1980s, previously this hole was not present.
