In the chassis tunnel behind the gear lever there is a bracket through which the shift rod passes. To ensure that the shift rod does its job without play or noise, there is a plastic guide sleeve around the shift rod that is clamped into the bracket.
A worn guide bushing can be recognized by an irritating clicking sound from the shift lever. Replacing this guide bush requires a little patience. It is best to pull the gearshift lever out of the car from the front.
To tighten the guide sleeve in the bracket, you need the lock washer mentioned here. It is not supplied with the guide sleeve (listed in the related parts tab). If the retaining ring is still there, you can reuse it as long as it is not corroded.
